Course Objectives

Learn modeling, analysis and design of reinforced concrete elements and structures.

Understand the concept and advantages of reinforced concrete.

Learn about the behavior and failure modes of reinforced concrete elements (beams, columns and slabs).
Course Contents

Introduction to concrete materials and reinforced concrete structural systems.

Design philosophy, modeling and load calculations for reinforced concrete structures.
-
Flexural design of beams and one-way slabs.
-
Shear design of beams.
-
Design of short columns.
-
Bond and development of reinforcing bars

Fundamentals of mechanics of materials

Fundamentals of structural analysis
Grading
The course includes two midterm exams, one final exam, homework problems and a project. The final score will be decided as follows:

Homework and project = 20 %

Exam 1 = 15%

Exam 2 = 15%

Final Exam = 50%
