COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course provides an overview of management. It covers theory, process and practice of the four fundamental management skills: Planning, Organizing, Leading and Controlling as well as the role of managers in organizations.

COURSE OBJECTIVES LEARNER OUTCOMES:

This course introduces a comprehensive understanding of management to students from various study areas. It prepares students with contemporary management concepts and skills through which students are expected to develop their skills in dealing with and manage their study and daily lives effectively and efficiently. In additional, the study of ethics issues in management, will enable students to be familiar with social responsibility which is essential to today’s business management environment.

On completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Understand the definition of management and establish the fundamental knowledge of management, e.g. organization, culture, and leadership.
  • Identify the dimensions of organizational culture, explain the source of an organization’s culture, and describe how culture affects managers.
  • Understand the global environment and identify the challenges of doing business globally in today’s world.
  • Define decision and decision-making process, and explain how managers can make effective decisions in today’s world.
  • Examine the functions of management: such as planning, organizing, leading, and controlling
  • Apply the management theories and skills to practical examples by studying real cases.

ATTENDENCE:

Students are expected to be in attendance on time of all classes.  There will be no make up of work missed through non‑attendance.  Students will be expected to turn in all assignments by the scheduled time.  The training and the experimentmust be taken during the week they are scheduled in order to receive credit for completing them.
