Course Outline: 

These two courses enable the students to explore with building materials properties and manufacturing including concrete, masonry, metals, wood, interior and exterior finishes. They also introduce the students to the preliminary principles of construction systems. Details drawing exercises and the production of a limited set of working drawings.

Course Outline

The subjects presented in the Materials and construction I course are:

• Main building materials ( sand, gravel, lime aggregate, lime, gypsum, cement, )

• Masonry construction ( brick, block and stone)

• Introduction to detail drawing

The subjects presented in the Materials and construction II course are:

• Concrete construction

• The design and construction of stairs

• Wood construction

• Metal construction

A series of lectures related to the main subjects of the course in addition to a set of exercises in the studio, field visits and reports form the core of the teaching method.

Evaluation:

The student has to prove the acquisition of the new skills by submitting assignments, reports and projects with specific tasks. He/she should also pass two exams; a midterm and a final. The evaluation is as follows:
