Course scope and objectives
IT for education a 3 credit hours course intended to familiarize educational technology students with some of the problems and opportunities associated with education and how information technologies can provide solutions to keep up with Information and Communication Technology CHANGE. Students are expected to appreciate the revolution in the Teaching / Learning Process caused by the internet and its related technologies and its abundant offerings as a supporting educational tool.
This course will demonstrate how IT is an essential ingredients for the success of today’s Inter-networked educational systems by placing major emphasis on the strategic role of IT in:
· Revitalizing the teaching and learning process.
· Improving the student and teacher interaction
· Highlighting the importance of student and student interaction and collaborative Work.
· Using IT to bridge the gap and cope with digital generation.
· Utilizing the IT offering as a supporting educational tool and means of implementing teaching methodologies
Course Outline:
I. Language skills as a learning tool.
- Receptive Skills, tools. (in-class discussions, webquest
- Productive Skills. Tools. (wikispaces, e-portfolio, google application
II. Networks and networking.
Review to the Technology curriculum of the Palestinian public school system .
- 5th grade to 12 grade.
- Networks.
III. Selected software applications ( computerized tests and assessments)
IV. Second generation of the internet, Web 2.0
- Introducing LMS, CMS
- Social networking, and social media in education
- Principles of online design.
Instruction Methodology
This course was created, developed and will be delivered as an e-enabled style, the course will be on http://it-edu.wikispaces.com and each student is required to have and build his own course wikispace and actively participate in constructing the class course.
Students are required to visit regularly http://it-edu.wikispaces.com site to interact with web based materials and on-line assignment.
Also all students are required to participate in online activities to search for knowledge by use of a number of web 2.0 applications, email, chat, forums and materials also the students are required to extensively maintain student and teacher interactivity and student and student interactivity and to collaborate in team work ON-LINE.
At the end of the semester, all students must participate within a working group to actively participate in designing and developing a project. The main theme is to use the IT offering as an educational tool to support and enhance the teaching and learning process .
