Preferred Abstract (Original):

Variation in diameter of both oogonia and oospores between species of Pythium was significant compared with variation between isolates within species. The use of oogonium and oospore diameter as taxonomic criteria is therefore considered justified. The relationship between oogonium and oospore diameter was linear for both aplerotic and plerotic isolates.
