CEF; cognitive-emotive fission refers to lack of harmony and concord in society due to the contradictions and collisions between what we claim and what we do. This cognitive- emotive state creates an environment for the emergence of seven personality types demonstrated by people in contemporary society and the Arab world is an example. Marsh has referred to CEF is his work on social change among the youth in the Arab World today. The so called Arab spring was taken as a case analysis by Marsh and his colleagues.
