Preferred Abstract (Original):

The deformation incompatibility of pile bridge structures and embankment foundations on soft soils has posed problems for highway designers for some time. The traditional preloading and sand drain solutions for those particular sites may be inappropriate and an innovative system called BASP (Bridge Approach Support Piling) system has been developed. This dissertation is a preliminary study of the behavior of the BASP system using finite element analysis program, FELSTA (Finite Element STructural Analysis).
