This study is based on a field survey carried out by the Center for Opinion Polls and Survey Studies and the Center of Earth Sciences and Seismic Engineering at An Najah National University. A sample representing the West Bank and the Gaza Strip was taken; the descriptive and the analytical approaches were used to reach to the results. The study shows that there is an acceptable level of seismic awareness among West Bank and Gazan citizens and that they are ready to accept adopting some procedures including an increase in costs 3-5% in case buildings are designed and constructed according to the code of seismic resistant structures. Members of the sample also believed that municipalities and Engineers' Association should accept responsibilities to monitor the adoption of seismic designs in the construction of buildings. The study also shows a discrepancy in awareness between the citizens of Gaza and those of the West Bank. Discrepancies also apply to governorates and are influenced by social and economic variables. The study also includes some recommendations to increase seismic awareness among citizens and to reduce the risk of earthquakes.
