Software Development Process Improvement for Small Palestinian Software Development Companies

Abstract: 

The purpose of this study was to develop a model for small software development companies in Palestinian market that will help them in making a self-evaluation for their software development process and find areas to improve.

A quantitative research methodology was used in this study. The survey was designed based on Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI V1.3). The quantitative research data was gathered with the aid of an online survey. Twenty five surveys were sent to software development companies in Palestine and fourteen responses were received. The response rate was fifty sixth percent.

The results of the survey revealed that ninety one percent of the respondents agreed or strongly agreed that the areas/activities included in the survey questionnaire are important for a small software development companies to succeed in delivering high quality products.

The researcher introduced a framework which he named the “PAL-SPI-“Model that could be applied by small Palestinian software development companies to assist them in improving their software processes and help them in delivering high quality software products in more efficient manner. “PAL-SPI” describes key elements that are necessary to achieve an effective software development process by describing an evolutionary path towards becoming a mature organization.
