Abstract:

This study consists of an introduction, four chapters and results and recommendations. The introduction includes the case of the study which highlights and emphasizes the Israeli role in the secession of Southern Sudan from the Democratic Republic of Sudan, in terms of its history and its kind and size. Then it discusses the implications of this secession on the Arab - Israeli conflict. Therefore, the study focuses on two organically connected topics: first the role of Israel in the secession of Southern Sudan, and the second is the implications of this separation on the Arab - Israeli conflict. In the first chapter, the study shows the importance of Sudan in the Arab - Israeli conflict, by giving an overview of Sudan, and then it shows the economic and strategic importance of Sudan in terms of political geography. In the second chapter, the study talks about the forces that played a role in the secession of Southern Sudan, where the study refers to the first time disputes appeared between north and south Sudan in the period prior to the British colonization, and then it clarifies the role of the British colonization in establishing the nucleus for separation. In addition, this chapter highlights the role of the internal environment in the separation of Southern Sudan. The focus was also on the policies of successive governments towards Israel and towards the southern movements, to make a better understanding of Israel's role in Sudan as a whole. In the third chapter, the study focuses on the Israeli role in the secession of Southern Sudan through putting stages for this role and explaining the means to achieve it, to get better knowledge of what has been planned for. In the context of Israel's role in Southern Sudan, there has been discussion about the impact of Sudan's neighboring countries, and then talk about influential forces in Sudan to give a comprehensive and detailed view of the Israeli role in the secession of Southern Sudan. The fourth chapter talks about the implications of the secession on the Arab - Israeli conflict. Among the consequences that have been talked about in this chapter are the implications of secession on the security of Sudan, the fragmentation of the Arab states, changes on the regional environment of Sudan, the economic effects of separation, the consequences of separation on the Palestinian cause, and the implications of secession on the Arab water security represented by the Nile and the Red Sea. The study concludes that Israel has used various ways and means for the separation of Southern Sudan; Israel exploited the African countries surrounding Sudan for being vulnerable and oppressed in the world, especially by Arab countries. Through establishing common interests with neighboring countries of Sudan, Israel was able to form an alliance with these countries to support separatist movements of Southern Sudan, and from here Israeli contacts with these movements increased by providing them with military, logistical and other kinds of support. And to get international legitimacy for Israel's role in Sudan, and to put pressure on the Khartoum government, Israel has worked - being the functional state in the Arab region - to strengthen its international role by using the United States of America (taking advantage of economic rival of the USA in Sudan,i.e. the Public Republic of China, and also a military rival to the USA in Sudan, i.e., the Islamic Republic of Iran), the United States constitute a pressure on the Sudanese government and its leadership in a way that serves the Israeli goals in Sudan. The Israeli role in the secession of Southern Sudan reflected negatively on the Arab - Israeli conflict and on the Arab states, which makes Israel gain many profits beginning with the distracting power of the State of Sudan and the loss of wealth and access to encircle the Egyptian national depth, which was a serious security threat to Israel. Through water of the Nile, military headquarters and airports and other means Israel can encircle Egypt, Sudan and the Arab states near this region through the creation of a new conflict for the Arabs, which is the Arab- African conflict. In addition, the separation of Southern Sudan has great effects on Israeli's project of Greater Israel; Israel will not stop at the scenario of Sudan, and will begin to work in another place within the Arab countries in which minorities live, especially in the period of the Arab Spring, which is characterized by anarchy. Israel will try its best to take advantage of these factors which serve its own projects and interests.
