Abstract:
This study aimed at identifying the result of the students' evaluation of the faculty members effectiveness at An-Najah National University and the effect of the demographic variables on this evaluation. The sample of the study consisted of (488) students who are studying at the university excluding the freshmen. The researcher prepared a questionnaire, which consists of 68 items distributed to four domains: personal traits and human relations, managing the educational environment and planning the instruction, general education and major, and the evaluation. To ensure the questionnaire validity, the researcher gave it to (17) juries at An-Najah University who ensured its appropriateness. The reliability of the questionnaire was calculated using Alpha-Formula. The reliability was (0.95). This study aimed at answering the following research questions: 1. What is the rate of the students' evaluation of the faculty member's at An-Najah University in Nablus district? 2. What are the students' suggestions to improve the performance of the faculty members at An-Najah University in Nablus district? 3. Is there a significant differences in the students' evaluation of the faculty members at An-Najah University due to the following variables: students' gender, environmental background, political affiliation, expected mark of the course, the accumulative average, nature of the course, gender, rank, and years of experience of the faculty member? To answer the questions of the study these questions were converted into the following null hypothesis: There is no statistical significant difference at (α=0.05) in the mean of the students' responses to the evaluation of the faculty due to the following variables: gender, place of residence, academic level, major, , political affiliation, expected mark in the course, nature of the course, gender member, age ,academic rank, and years of teaching experience of the faculty member? The data obtained from the questionnaire were analyzed using the means, frequencies, percentages, dependent t- test (paired t - test), One - Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Scheffe test. The findings of the study were: 1- The degree of the students' evaluation of the faculty at An-Najah University in Nablus district was high in all domains. 2- The domains were ranked by the students at An-Najah University according to their importance as the following: the personal traits and the humane relations, managing the educational environment and planning the instruction, the evaluation, and finally the major and the general education. 3- The students made (11) suggestions to improve the performance of the faculty. All of these suggestions were found to agree with expected role of the faculty member. 4- There was a statistically significant differences in the evaluation of the faculty members, due to the following variables: gender, place of residence, major, type of the course, and the expected mark in the course. 5- There was no significant difference in the evaluation of the faculty members due to the variables of: the educational level, the political affiliation, the accumulative average, the nature of the course, the gender of the faculty member, age of the faculty member, the academic rank, and the years of experience. In the light of these findings, the researcher recommended that further studies should be conducted on the evaluation of the faculties in the other universities in West Bank and in the various educational levels. The researcher also recommended that the students' views and evaluation should be supported and that students should be encouraged so that they can express their views and their constructive criticism.
