Naphtho[1′,2′:4,5]thieno[3,2-a]-4,7-phenanthroline, a novel hexacyclic ring system has been synthesized in four steps. The 1H and 13C nmr assignments have been made using two-dimensional nmr techniques. The tertiary helical structure was determined by X-ray crystallographic analysis.
